On May 6, the NCUA placed a federally chartered credit union in Jackson, Mississippi, into conservatorship, citing “unsafe and unsound practices.” The credit union, which maintains more than 15,500 members and holds roughly $162 million in reported assets, primarily serves local government employees across 38 distinct groups. The NCUA stated that member services will continue without interruption while the agency works to resolve the credit union’s operational issues. The NCUA emphasized that member deposits remain protected by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, with individual accounts insured up to $250,000, and separate coverage for joint accounts and certain retirement accounts at the same threshold.
