Travelers reports Q2 net income of $2.21 billion as underwriting and investment results improve

Core income rose to $2.160 billion, or $10.04 per diluted share, from $1.504 billion, or $6.51 per diluted share. The combined ratio improved to 83.6% from 90.3%, with the underlying combined ratio edging down to 84.1% from 84.7%. Return on equity climbed to 27.1% from 20.9% and core return on equity to 24.9% from 18.8%. Net investment income increased 14% to $1.070 billion pre-tax, driven by higher yields and growth in average invested assets across the fixed income portfolio. Net written premiums were roughly flat at $11.529 billion, though the comparison reflects Travelers’ divestiture of its Canadian operations in Q1 2026 – excluding that sale, NWP grew 2%.
