{"id":2077,"date":"2025-08-15T16:49:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T16:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insuracarelife.com\/blog\/uk-club-takes-roles-to-newcastle-insurance-day\/"},"modified":"2025-08-15T16:49:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T16:49:06","slug":"uk-club-takes-roles-to-newcastle-insurance-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.insuracarelife.com\/blog\/uk-club-takes-roles-to-newcastle-insurance-day\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Club takes roles to Newcastle :: Insurance Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">UK Club is set to open an office in Newcastle, making it only the second International Group affiliate with a substantial British presence outside London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">Britannia, London Club, Shipowners\u2019 Club, Steamship Mutual\u00a0and West of England\u00a0all remain concentrated in the capital, with any geographical links implied by their names purely historic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">The north eastern city is the hometown of the old North of England P&amp;I, which was founded in 1860. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">It remains the main operational base of NorthStandard\u00a0following the merger between North and Standard in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">UK Club has openly admitted that it is \u201clooking to capitalise on the city\u2019s impressive pool of graduate and existing P&amp;I talent\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">Other attractions are likely to include office space at rents far cheaper than those prevailing in London, as well as lower salaries for support staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">UK Club\u2019s northeast team is led by senior underwriting director Emma Liddell and senior claims executives Julie Pichler and Andrew North.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">It is recruiting for another senior claims executive role, which is open to candidates from either London or Newcastle.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">Chief operating officer Lisa Gibbard said: \u201cInvesting in our Newcastle office also enables us to participate more actively in the region\u2019s diverse maritime industry, complementing our networks in London and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">The UK P&amp;I Club, which is managed by Thomas Miller,\u00a0is the third-largest marine mutual in the IG, with over 250m gt of owned and chartered entries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">Its combined ratio for the 2024\/25 policy came in at 116%, up from 107% the year before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\">It recently announced the launch of a fixed premium product geared towards smaller tonnage, branded as UK Fixed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph js-ignore-longread\"><em>This article first appeared in Lloyd&#8217;s List, a sister publication of Insurance Day<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UK Club is set to open an office in Newcastle, making it only the second International Group affiliate with a substantial British presence outside London.
